This hunt is conducted in our exclusive guide area on the Alaskan Peninsula. The area is over a million acres of wilderness within Becharof National Wildlife Refuge and borders Katmai National Park and Preserve. Our high success rate is largely contributed to the fact that we have been living and operating out of the area since 1987. We target trophy bulls with an antler spread over 60 inches. Hunting Methods
On a typical hunt you be flown into a spike camp, consisting of a large tent with cots and cook table. Unless specified by you otherwise, our hunts are one-on-one with a guide for each hunter, plus an assistant/packer in most camps. Hunting is spot and stalk and hunters should come prepared to spend long days on the spotting hill glassing for trophy animals alongside their guide. More hunting is done with your eyes than your feet. Animals can travel much faster than we can, plus if you are moving you are missing most of what is going on. You do not need to be a world class athlete however the ability to travel across difficult terrain, occasionally at a rapid pace, will greatly enhance your chance of success. All hunting is done on foot. The terrain is damp, moss covered tundra and brush with numerous streams separated by rolling hills and volcanic mountains.
The rut begins in late September, making the hunting season early pre-rut. Calling can sometimes be effective but is not our primary method of hunting.
Mature bull moose weight over 1500lbs –all meat, cape, and antlers must be carried out on foot. The terrain is open tundra but is rolling and broken. Typical shots at moose are under 200 yards.
After returning to the lodge, hunters will be made comfortable and be able to relax and shower while their departure arrangements are made. A satellite phone is in camp and can be utilized if flights need to be changed.
Trophy Care, Export and Departure
Trophies will be transported from the field in the raw. Our guides are all trained in trophy preservation and will turn and salt the capes. Arrangements will be made to ship the horns and cape to a local taxidermist who can personally process and mount your trophy, or can expedite it to a taxidermist of your choice.
